The passing years have brought about massive land reclamation and at the turn of the 20th Century, Beach Road Camp &#8211; the current site on which South Beach stands &#8211; was set up.<\/p>\n<p>Comprising three military blocks, it served as headquarters for homegrown military forces and eventually, the venue for the first National Service enlistment in 1967. The neighbouring section, now the South Beach Club, was a favourite haunt for army, naval and air force officers and was famed for having one of the first Olympic sized swimming pools in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>In 2000, the 3 army blocks and the South Beach Club were bestowed conservation status.
